TRAINING PROGRAMMES UNDERTAKEN

The disciplines considered for giving training are Agronomy, Horticulture, Animal Science, Agricultural Engineering, Home Science and Agricultural Extension. All the disciplines are inter-linked with each other and mainly focused on increasing the agricultural productivity as a wholistic approach in a self sustainable mode. Therefore, while designing the courses, the entire concept of farming system was taken into account to make the enterprises commercially viable.

The training programmes were planned and conducted as production oriented, need based on campus and off campus courses for various target groups. The duration of on campus courses varies from three days to six months (includes both short and long term training courses). The off campus courses are of one day duration.

Major technologies transferred through training programmes:

Discipline-wise technologies transferred through training programmes are as follows;

AGRONOMY

  • Selection of crops/seeds of improved varieties/hybrids suitable for specific location, soil type and agro-climatic condition
  • Seed treatment with fungicides/pesticides to protect the seedlings from seed borne pathogens/early stage pests and with bio-fertilizers to improve plant vigour.
  • Improved / latest crop production technologies which plays predominant role in attaining the production potentiality of the crop.
  • Improved water and weed management practices
  • Environmentally safe cost effective integrated plant protection measures
  • Balanced and integrated nutrient management practices
  • Contingent crop plans to overcome aberrant weather
  • Conditions especially moisture stress due to drought
  • Integrated farming system modules for wet land, garden land and dry land conditions

HORTICULTURE

  • Improved cultivation practices
  • Dry land production technologies
  • Balanced nutrient management and organic farming practices
  • Biological control of pest and diseases
  • Use of growth regulators to realize production potential
  • Scientific nursery management

ANIMAL SCIENCE

  • Green fodder production and dry fodder preparation
  • Milch animal management
  • Scientific poultry management
  • Prevention of contagious and non- contagious diseases
  • Economic sheep and goat rearing practices
  • Cattle breeding management

HOME SCIENCE

  • Improved dietary practices
  • Prevention of deficiency diseases
  • Improved health and environmental sanitation
  • Safe drinking water – scientific and improved storage methods at home level
  • Food processing, rural bakery and preservation techniques
  • Home food production
  • Value added foods and marketing techniques
  • Economic improvement through skill oriented activities
  • Women empowerment through skill oriented technologies

AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING

  • Improved agricultural implements for increasing agricultural production and productivity
  • Water conservation and management
  • Post harvest technology
  • Soil and water analysis and recommendation of suitable manurial dosage
  • Non – conventional energy sources – bio gas plants, solar power equipments
  • Skill trainings to farmers / rural youth in repair and maintenance of farm implements / equipme

AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION :

  • Developing leadership qualities by organizing Co-operative societies, self help groups, farmers discussion groups and farm science club
  • Non- formal education programme to the society
  • Entrepreneur development programme and skill development to rural youth
  • Organising skill oriented trainings to rural community.
